Shigeyuki Kihara is a contemporary artist primarily focused on pacific culture. She was born in Samoa, her mother being Samoan and her father being Japanese. Her work consists of self portraiture (provocative nudes portraying polynesian women as sexual objects). Yuki also does performance.
She came to NZ to further her studies at the age of 16 in fashion design. One of her garments she made (Graffiti Dress - Bombacific) was bought and displayed by the Te Papa Museum.
She is a fa'afafine and her work can be found internationally. Here is one of her famed artworks.
